☩ Mar Thoma News ☩
Blessings to the members of the Mumbai Diocese of the Mar Thoma Church
Dearly beloved in Christ,
I was thirsty and you gave me drink ... (Mathew 25:35)
It is widely known that this year in many parts of India, there is scarcity of water and the drought situation is very severe. It is declared that in Maharashtra alone there are 29,000 villages without quality drinking water. It is learned that more than 257 Districts and approximately 33 crores of people in our country are affected. This is a very grave situation.
Our Diocese of Mumbai has identified Garadwadi, Juni Jawahar, kelichapad villages of Jawahar in Palghar district and Meeranagar, Padegaon remote villages (near Aurangabad) for distribution of drinking water and we plan to supply from May 16, 2016. As far as possible, this will be done with the help of Clergy, Evangelists and members of our parishes in the nearby places. Let us understand that this is a ministry that everyone is called to do, like the disciples were asked to feed the people in the desert (Mark 6:35). Therefore, I ask all the members of the diocese to pray and support the initiative of the diocese.
The common notion is that the drought is a result of the rainfall deficit. Lack of harvesting and proper storage, faulre to regulate water extraction, patterns of use and misuse are also valid reasons. Hence observing austerity measures in the management of water is a human social responsibility.
Jesus stood and said in a loud voice,
... Whoever believes in me ... rivers of living water will flow from within them. (John 7:38). There is a spiritual dimension to which Jesus is leading us every day.
Let us be 'Streams of water' in the world.
May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ be with us all.
- Rt. Rev. Dr. Geevarghese Mar Theodosius
